On July 13, 2014, the Southwest Touring Car Classic on the Chengdu International Circuit came to a close. As a heavy-engine car race for the southwest region, the event attracted many famous teams and drivers, as well as motor racing enthusiasts and spectators. The FAW – Volkswagen Golf teams partook in the race and the two professional drivers, Wu Zhen and Guo Liang, showed a strong play. In the end, it was Guo Liang who took third place.

The official race starting order was determined by the qualifying race on Saturday. The two drivers of the FAW – Volkswagen teams drove lap times of 1 minute 46 seconds and 1 minute 48 seconds respectively, resulting in them getting the second and fourth starting position. During the warm-up race before the official race, the two drivers improved their single lap time by 2 seconds. According to the race regulations, the supercar A and B teams entered the same race, making the race more stimulating and exciting. The official race started at 6:15 PM, with in total 20 competing cars on the track, including Porsche, GTR, EVO, BMW M3 and Golf. During the race, there was a stalemate between the Golf and the 700 horsepower EVO from the supercar A team, as well as exciting moments from the Nissan GTR! According to our understanding, most of the cars participating in this race were extensively modified; however, the FAW – Volkswagen Golf used the original civilian bodywork, and the original EA888 engine and driving computer. Because of this, we were amazed by the overall quality and especially the engine technology that the Golf showed during the race. After 12 laps of intense competition, Guo Liang finished in third place driving the Golf, besting luxury cars like the BMW M3.

The 2014 Southwest Touring Car Classic is a premier racing event of the southwest region, attracting the attention of many racing enthusiasts. Besides entering the race with the FAW – Volkswagen teams, more than 300 Golf car owners and fans were invited to enjoy the charm of the race. Golf cars have always enjoyed the trust and support of many car owners, intrinsically linked to its superior product characteristics. Since entering the market, the new Golf model has won a lot of domestic and international top car awards, as well as the international recognition of many owners. Even more worth mentioning is that the all-new Golf beat the pack in the 2014 CRC China Rally Championship, with two teams winning a title, further demonstrating its leading product quality and sporting genes.
