Liu Yulong, a freshman of Tongji University from Pingxiang, Jiangxi Province, always believes that despite the hardship in his life, he is lucky. In the fresh and interesting university life, he is full of expectations for the future, but due to family difficulties, his dream-seeking path is not smooth. But this time, luck once again came to him. On December 7th, FAW Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd. and China Youth Development Foundation jointly held the event of “2018 FAW Toyota Builds a Colorful Life for the Young”, and 200 university freshmen from all over the country were funded by FAW Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd. Nearly 300 people gathered to participate in the event of “2018 FAW Toyota Builds a Colorful Life for the Young”, including leadership from FAW Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd. and China Youth Development Foundation, student representatives, charity celebrities and media representatives.
The event began with a video, in which the youthful and energetic students brought a passionate atmosphere. Ms. Chi Yaoping, Director of the Education and Culture Division of the China Youth Development Foundation, said that these students also have dreams for the future, and need the society to support with energy and blessings. This event is designed to provide financial aid for college students who have family difficulties, so as to help them become self-reliant, change the fate of their own and their families through knowledge, and pursue their own dreams. As a good corporate citizen, FAW Toyota actively participates in social welfare undertakings and creates material wealth for the society. In the cooperation with the China Youth Development Foundation, they have established a three-in-one mode for public welfare cooperation, combining “material donation, spiritual assistance and personality training”, rather than the single “material donation”. This has become a powerful force to block the intergenerational transmission of poverty.

Each year, 200 freshmen from the five universities in the country are selected and funded by the “through train” scholarship, with the hope to alleviate their pressure in daily life and study.

Sha Yu, a sophomore from the School of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering at Beijing Institute of Technology, was one of the beneficiaries last year. He said with deep feelings, "The biggest gain of college life in the first year is that I’ve become confident." Sha Yu once felt that he had no special skills, not good at expressing his ideas and always overcautious. He received the bursary of FAW Toyota last year. The company and the Foundation encouraged him not to be afraid of the temporary difficulties in life, and taught him to challenge himself to pursue his dream. "Since then, I become very high-spirited. I no longer feel inferior because of my family difficulties. In the years to come, I will meet more people and do more meaningful things. Young people shall have dreams, and they should do everything they can to achieve it." During his time at school, Sha Yu actively participated in science and technology activities, worked hard at student association, and was enthusiastic about public welfare to return to society.
